HEALTH ON WHEELS/ LATINO HEALTH PROGRAM

 

Under the "Health On Wheels" project, Madre Latina Inc. is  collaborating with Cancer Care, Staywell, Planned Parenthood, Wellmore, Department of Health, Red Cross, Safe Haven, Catholic Charities, ION Bank, and New Opportunities in order to provide a "safe place" for Latino families to become educated on health-related facts in their native language. 

 

The goal was to improve their quality of life and to promote health in Latino families and challenged health taboos and served as a bridge in the community by providing access to resources, program information, and services available in the area. 

 

A model program delivered by a Latino Educator and Coordinators to improve the health and wellbeing fo Latino residents in Connecticut.

Currently compromised of volunteer health promoters throught Waterbury, Connecticut.

Under the "Health On Wheels" project we are:

  • Referral families to Health programs
  • Inform residents about programs and resources
  • Educate the Latino population at health fairs
  • Coordinate Health’s workshops in the community
  • Connect with other groups to provide information on physical activities in the community
  • Advocate for health issues that benefits the Latino community
